Steps to University of Oklahoma Retirement

1. Make an appointment with the Retirement Coordinator on your campus. This appointment will:

  • Confirm your retirement eligibility date.
  • Ensure all prior service has been credited.
  • Outline retirement benefits.
  • Explain steps in preparation for retiring.
2. Contact Oklahoma Teachers’ Retirement System (OTRS) 405-521-2387.
  • Confirm OTRS retirement eligibility date.
  • Estimate retirement benefits.

3 months prior to your retirement date

 

3. Notify your department of your intent to retire. A PAF (Personnel Action Form) will be prepared by your department indicating your retirement date.

4. If you are or will be eligible for Medicare benefits when you retire, you should begin the enrollment process for Medicare by contacting your local Social Security Office. www.ssa.gov

  • At your local Social Security Office, you must enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B to maximize the benefit of your OU Health Insurance. You will be given a Request For Employment Information form to document your insurance coverage. Employee Services will complete and return this form to the Social Security Administration.
  • Employee Services needs your Medicare Part A & B numbers prior to your retirement in order to enroll you in the BCBS Traditional Indemnity Plan for Medicare retirees. Please provide your Medicare Part A and B numbers as soon as possible prior to your retirement date.
  • Currently Medicare Part D is offered as part of your OU Health Package.

1 month prior to your retirement date

6. Return all completed documents to OTRS.

7. If you are enrolled in the long term care benefit contact CNA to convert to a private plan and make billing arrangements. 800-528-4582

8. Confirm insurance enrollment with Employee Services.

  • Decide if you want to continue dependent health or dental coverage.
  • Turn in a separate enrollment form to continue the amount of life insurance you are eligible to continue as a retiree.

9. Go to the One Card Office to receive a Retiree ID card . You will need a retiree ID card to receive additional retirement benefits such as library and parking privileges.
