Retirement Track Eligibility

Depending on your employee group and age, certain rules govern your eligibility to participate in the university retirement plans through Track A and Track B. Review the rules below to understand your eligibility. For details about each track, return to the Retirement page and choose a track link.

Employee Eligibility Rules
Salaried employees under age 45 Must elect Track A or Track B within first 90 days of employment. (Excludes visiting faculty, instructors or lecturers. See below.) Defaulted to Track A 90 days after date of hire if election has not been made. This is a one-time, non-reversible choice.
Salaried employees age 45 and older Defaulted to Track B. Track A can be elected.

Hourly employees with one of the following:

  • age 28 and older, OR
  • any age with 3 years of benefits eligible service at OU
Defaulted to the Defined Contribution Plan (DCP) in Track B at date of hire or date of eligibility. Track A can be elected.
Hourly employees under age 28 with less than 3 years of benefits eligible service The Oklahoma Teachers' Retirement System (OTRS) can be elected. The Defined Contribution Plan (DCP) cannot be elected until eligible (see above). If OTRS is not elected, there are no contributions made to a retirement plan. Not eligible for Track B.
Visiting professors under age 45 May only elect Track A, no default plan, at hire. At the start of the fifth consecutive semester in the same college, a one-time, non-reversible choice between Track A and Track B must be elected within 90 days from the date of eligibility. Defaulted to Track A 90 days after date of eligibility if election has not been made.
Visiting professors age 45 and older Defaulted to Track B. This choice can be changed.
